Cortona and Arezzo Tour
Your private taxi in Cortona and Arezzo
Enjoy visiting Arezzo and Cortona, the two main cultural and artistic centers of the Val di Chiana area.
Your private driver will pick you up at your accommodation in the morning, will take you to Arezzo and leave you very close to the city center. Even though destroyed during the Second World War, Arezzo has plenty of monuments, churches and museums remaining that offer visitors a chance to step back into history.
Among the churches to see in Arezzo, there are the Romanesque church of Santa Maria della Pieve; the Basilica of San Francesco, with the astonishing Cappella Bacci (Bacci chapel) with the early Renaissance frescoes of Piero della Francesca depicting the Legend of the True Cross; the Church of San Domenico with the wooden Crucifix by Cimabue and the Cathedral dedicated to San Donato. Also visit the Medicean Fortress and its gardens, which provides 360-degree stunning views of the city, the Roman amphitheater and the amazing Piazza Grande o Piazza Vasari, the oldest square of the city and one of the most beautiful in Italy.
In the afternoon, the tour continues to Cortona, small charming Etruscan town enclosed by medieval stone walls and surrounded by olive trees. Your driver will bring you first to the city center where you can admire Piazza della Repubblica with the Palazzo Comunale; Piazza Signorelli with Palazzo Casali home of the MAEC (The Etruscan Academy Museum of the City of Cortona); the Diocesan Museum (where you can admire a beautiful panel painting of the Annunciation by Beato Angelico) and various important catholic churches spread over the city center including the Cathedral. Afterwards your driver will take you to the Santa Margherita Sanctuary, patron of the city, and to the Girifalco Fortress, both situated on the highest point of the hill from where you can admire a breath-taking panorama! Then you will go visiting the Franciscan hermitage of Le Celle, one of the most beautiful and spiritual places in Cortona, the first monastery built by Saint Francis of Assisi in 1211, where a small community of friars still lives today. Last but not least, your driver may also take you to two others fascinating Renaissance churches placed just outside of Cortona’s walls: Santa Maria Nuova and Santa Maria delle Grazie al Calcinaio.
At the end of the tour, your private driver will take you back to you accommodation.
